85 acres of recreation await you!

Have you ever driven on Lake Pleasant Parkway just south of the 303 and noticed that huge rock barrier that looks like it’s the retaining wall of a water dam? Well, it’s not part of a dam, but it is blocking everyone’s view of a great community resource. Hidden behind that barrier is a recreation paradise that has lots to offer families.

Of course, you can go there any time to get fresh air and exercise for the entire family. But, through Peoria’s Family Outdoor Enrichment programs, you can do some other really fun stuff too! They offer themed hikes led by rangers and hold them at Paloma Community Park. In the coming months they are offering a Donkey Discovery Hike, Wildflower Hike, and Neon Nighttime Hike. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, adults can take a Love in the Dutch Oven outdoor cooking class! Fishing classes for adults and children are offered too, in case that’s a hobby anyone in your family wants to take up or return to. All of these programs are open to anyone, not just Peoria residents, a plus for all of us. To see the schedule, and register, visit here.

Public Art installation at Paloma Park that looks like steampunk windmills

This park packs a lot of fun and activities into its 85 acres of facilities and open space. So next time you are heading in that direction, make time to stop by to play, unwind, and enjoy. See if you can get up close to the windmill looking art installation called Song Birds. If the wind’s blowing, they make happy musical sounds like a windchime!
