Local BBQ Goodness

With the weather warming up, having some great BBQ might be on your mind. Here are some area restaurants where you can satisfy your craving for something slow smoked, saucy, and delicious!

Naked Q - Glendale

The kids might giggle at the name of this restaurant but the whole family will love the food and convenience. Of the three featured restaurants, this one is the most casual and the fastest. It’s ideal for quickly getting the fixings for a great dinner at home or a picnic at the park, but you can also eat there. The service is professional and this Glendale restaurant is clean and easy to get to (by Bruester’s Ice Cream right off Glendale Ave. at Westgate). There are multiple sauces to choose from, the servings are generous, and there is enough variety on the menu that everyone will find something to love.

Caldwell County BBQ - Peoria

This restaurant serves Central Texas style BBQ and just opened up in Peoria at the beginning of February. It’s fantastic! There is patio and indoor seating, a gift shop, an indoor/outdoor bar, and delicious food at a fair price. The outdoor patio has heat lamps and misters to help with the weather but the real fun of sitting out there is being right by the 4 huge smokers (that get started at 5 am!) and the whole wall of neatly stacked wood that will fuel those smokers. This is a place where you will want to sit down and enjoy your meal with friends and family.

The staff are super friendly and it’s a great location because there are other things to do and see within walking distance while you are in the neighborhood. Across the street is the Peoria Performing Arts Center, making it convenient to have dinner and catch a performance. Osuna Park and its unique musical play area is also across the street so the kids can play before or after your meal. And Old Town Peoria has some really interesting little spots to check out while you are there.

Dillon’s BBQ at Wildlife World Zoo - Litchfield Park

Dillons BBQ two plates with food and a drink set out on a table

Of the three BBQ restaurants, this is the one you might want to save for a special occasion because it is so unique. How often do you get the chance to luncheon outdoors on a shaded patio right next to a flock of bright pink flamingoes? Or dine next to a 60,000 gallon aquarium with all kinds of fish and some sharks swimming around? It’s hard to decide which seating area to choose!

Putting these show stopping backdrops aside, Dillon’s offers great food, great service, and Kansas City style BBQ. There is a roll of paper towels on the tables instead of napkins so you can really dig in to your meal, go crazy with the sauce if you want to, and not worry about it. The other thing to be assured is that while the restaurant is at the World Wildlife Zoo, you can always dine there without needing to buy entrance to the zoo.
