Who says kids are the only ones who can enjoy the summer season? Get some friends together and do a Summer Book Club so you’ve got something special to look forward to in the coming weeks as well. A good book, time with friends, sounds like a great way to spend some of your summer!

Getting started is pretty straightforward:

  1. Get some friends on board
  2. Choose a book (see below for tips)
  3. Decide when and where you’ll meet.

If all the book club members have time, maybe meet a few times to talk about the book as you read through it. If time’s short, getting together 1 time to discuss the entire book is a great option. When you meet, try to fit in the theme of the book. Maybe what you wear, what refreshments you share, or …

The library is a great starting point for selecting books because many have ready to check out Book Club Kits!  Keeps costs down for everyone as an added bonus. Or look to Goodreads, Oprah, or Reese for some ideas.

Peoria’s main library has a unique book club variation that they host monthly. They read a cookbook! When the book discussion comes, everyone brings a prepared dish from that cookbook to share as they discuss the book. Easy enough to duplicate with friends or maybe you want to join their club! Another fun variation is to do a Family Book Club. If you’ve got sisters, aunts, older nieces…do a book club with them even if they don't live locally. Set up a Google Meets to have a summer reunion get together & book discussion and it does not matter where they live.

Prioritize time with a book and time with good company this summer. It’s a refreshing way to get through the hot summer months!
